E-MAIL
Dropping a note to your family and friends by e-mail is simple when you are in St.
Petersburg. Most major hotels offer e-mail/Internet access from their Business Centers.
There are also several public access terminals throughout the city. Here are some useful
addresses:
BUSINESS COMMUNICATIONS CENTER at the Central Telephone Station
Address: Bolshaya Morskaya Ulitsa 3-5
Metro: Nevsky Prospekt/Gostiny Dvor, exit to Kanal Griboyedova
How to get there? From Nevsky Prospekt turn to Bolshaya Morskaya Ulitsa and walk 50
yards towards the huge yellow arch.
When in the building, walk straight through the hall and turn left to the Business
Communications Center - you need window # 4. Their operators can type up your message or
you can rent a terminal and type it yourself, or you can bring your message on a disk
(which will save you both time and money).
Receiving e-mail - 1,000 rubles / $0.17 per 1 Kilobyte (approx. 1000 symbols) of
information. Sending e-mail - 2,500 rubles / $0.43 per 1 Kilobyte of information.
If you want an operator to type up your message be prepared to pay 15,000 / $2.61 per
page. If you want to type it yourself you can rent a computer for 25,000 rubles / $4.35
per hour (in 30 minute periods).
By the way. At the same building you can make a call home using your calling
card (AT&T, MCI, Sprint, BT, etc.). Walk back towards the exit and turn right (that is
left if you have just entered the hall).
