The President of the Moscow Union of Inventors Nikolai Knyazev believes that the Kursk atomic-powered submarine lying on the bed of the Barents Sea at a depth of 108 meters can be brought to the surface within one week. He proposes to hoist the sub using a pallet with a net woven out of metallic cables.

        The idea behind the project is to cover the submarine with the "net" and then to drag it in a horizontal position onto the pallet with the help of a powerful tugboat, Knyazev explains.

        The hoisting of the submarine lying on such a pallet can be executed with the help of standard aerostats connected to the net with cables. In this way, the sub will be just like in a hammock and the load will be distributed evenly throughout the entire hull of the Kursk.

        Knyazev suggests lifting the submarine to a certain level after which it could be towed to a port dock.

        The Moscow inventor is convinced that the cost of the given project will be substantially less than any other alternative because the Northern Fleet has all the facilities and equipment for executing such an operation.
