New Year Celebration for the Disabled Children
in the Hermitage
Over the last years it has become a tradition at the Hermitage to organize
celebration parties for physically and psychologically unbalanced children.
The museum provides regular lessons for such children in accordance with
a special syllabus. The Christmas holiday is the result of the year's
activities of the museum for these children. It is held in the Hermitage
theatre. The children get an opportunity to display their abilities in
music, dance and singing, play the parts of the characters and heroes
of the works of art, and feel, through the costumes, sets, music and poetry,
the historic atmosphere of different historic epochs. The active part
in the preparation of the scenarios, making the costumes, the sets and
productions themselves is taken by the teachers and arts teachers of the
schools. The subjects of the performances are different every year - the
Ancient times, The Middle Ages, Russian fairy-tales etc., but the all
of them have the same title - Our Hermitage. This year the performance
is devoted to the 2000th anniversary of Christmas. All the groups were
studying at the Hermitage to get to know the works of fine arts related
to Christmas. After the tours the children were gladly making their drawings
in the rooms of the museum.
