Ceremonial Conclusion of the Projects A New
Roof for Rembrandt and
New Lighting For Rembrandt
On 28 November 1998, completion of work on the projects A New Roof for
Rembrandt and New Lighting For Rembrandt was marked by the ceremonial
opening of the Rembrandt rooms in the Hermitage. The projects were carried
out jointly by the State Hermitage and the Dutch Friends of the Hermitage.
The ceremony was held in the Hermitage Theatre in the presence of His
Royal Highness Willem-Alexander, Prince of the Netherlands, elder son
of Queen Beatrix.
The director of the Hermitage, Mikhail Piotrovsky, and His Royal Highness
Prince Willem-Alexander opened the restored rooms, which are hung with
works by the great 17th-century Dutch artist
Rembrandt Harmensz. van Rijn and painters of the Rembrandt School.
