Participation of the State Hermitage in the
International Exhibition Telecom -99 in Geneva.
10 - 17 October 1999 the International Exhibition Telecom - 99 took
place in Geneva. In accordance with the agreement between the State Hermitage
and Petersburg telephone network company a number of sessions of video
conference between the Hermitage and Geneva were organised by the company.
Five video cameras were installed in the Hermitage: four of them in St
George's Hall, Nicholas Hall, Concert Hall of the Winter Palace and the
Councillor's Staircase; the fifth camera was placed on the roof of the
Hermitage Theatre. The cameras transmitted views of magnificent interiors
of the Museum and the panorama of the Neva river on a big screen in the
exhibition pavilion of Russia. Excursions from the Pavilion Room, Spanish
Skylight Room, halls of Leonardo da Vinci, Titian, Monet, Picasso, Matisse
were transmitted to Geneva each lasting for about 15 - 20 minutes. 14
October at 13 - 00 director of the State Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky
addressed the conference in the interactive regime.
