Table Seal with the Coat-of-Arms of the Chertkov Family
Second half of the 19th century
Quarts 1 (of die) 2.7 cm, w 2 cm, h overall 6.3 cm
The seal is made of transparent quartz with
golden-yellow hair-like crystals of rutile known
as ‘Venus' hair-stone' or pencil quartz. The
seal with the Chertkov coat-of-arms is listed in
the first volume of the General Armorial of the
Nobility of the Empire of All Russia, published
in 1797. It is double-sided with the
coat-of-arms on the lower die and the surname
Chertkov on the upper die.
