One of the most popular themes at the Imperial Porcelain Factory was the many peoples who inhabited the vast territory of the Russian Empire. The last and largest series on this theme was produced between 1907 to 1917. It consisted of 150 male and female figures in colourful national costumes. The aim was to achieve ethnographic authenticity by conveying all the features of ethnic type and attire. Large figures were provided for the imperial court, and figures half the original size were produced as gifts.
