Kerch, the Crimea
First half of the 5th century AD

L of blade 87 cm
The sheath and hilt were lavishly covered with gold plaques decorated with garnet inlays executed in the cloisonné technique, and the hilt originally ended with a decorative detail. This is a typical example of weaponry of the time of the great migration of peoples. Similar swords were widespread on the vast territory of Eastern and Western Europe, the Black Sea and the Northern Caucasus.
